Series of 4-6 lessons
- This unit is continues the Coding unit using 2Code that was taught in Year 4 . As with all units, you may want to adapt the content to suit topics being studied in the classroom.
Objectives
- to design and write a program that accomplishes a specific goal and simulates a physical system
- to use repetition commands and if statements
- To use debugging strategies
- to introduce variables
NC Computing Objectives KS1
- understand what algorithms are; how they are implemented as programs on digital devices; and that programs execute by following precise and unambiguous instructions
- create and debug simple programs
- use logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple programs
Resources
- 2Code software within Purple Mash
- Code Block cards, Scene cards, Challenge cards – found on the schemes of work page

Lessons 1-2 build on the 2Code unit from year 4. these lessons build capability of the students with more commands and objects to use. Can be differentiated according to confidence level of pupil.
In Lessons 3-6 New command are introduced, it is generally better to introduce the topic without reference to the ‘new command’ just use it in examples as the terms can be confusing when they are relatively simple. Additional lesson/s can be added to support
