Mathematics Lessons/Activities using Mini Mash
Pupils play with/have access to different types of technology in the classroom, the children
explore using Mini Mash/Purple Mash in different ways.
Objectives
Early Learning Goal Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in
order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities
and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the
answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.
Many of these activities are aimed at low ability and in some cases preverbal pupils.

Choose some activities that would be most appropriate with your pupils.
Mini Mash is found under the Home section.
Numbers
Use the PDF teacher’s resources to support number recognition and counting.
Use the main indoor and outdoor areas in Mini Mash to count:
- Birds in the tree
- Paint pots
- Aeroplanes in the sky
- Children painting
- Children building
- The number of blocks they are building with.
The jigsaws in this section show groups of objects from numbers 1-10.
Use the slideshows to help children with numbers recognition and counting.
Numbers and counting Maths City
There are a range of activities within maths city which encourage the use of number language,
grouping objects and counting up to 10.
Outdoor area
Abstraction counting – counting children skipping
The Farm
Simple addition of two groups of objects, counting to 10.
Numbers and counting Number paint projects.
Numbers up to 10, draw the right number of marks/objects to match the number or use this to help support the children starting to make their own marks to represent the number.
Numbers and counting Maths City
Use all areas of Maths City for
- Recognising numbers up to 10
- Counting objects up to 10
- Simple addition up to 10
- Saying number names for numbers
- Compare sets of objects.
- Count groups of objects up to 10
Numbers and counting 2Count
Use the various pictograms to count and sort with the children.
- Which animals did we see on the farm?
- How many pigs did we see?
- How many sheep did we see?
- Can we count 4 pigs etc.…

Mathematics – Shape, Space and measure Lessons/Activities using Mini Mash
Pupils play with/have access to different types of technology in the classroom, the children
explore using Mini Mash/Purple Mash in different ways.
Objectives
Early Learning Goal Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity,
position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems.
They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday
objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them
Many of these activities are aimed at low ability and in some cases preverbal pupils.

Drawing and painting Paint projects
Use the following Paint Projects to create a simple pattern.
- Easter Egg
- Flower
- Poppy
Shape topic Slideshow
Use the shape topic pack to provide opportunities for the children to recognise and identify shapes all around them in the slideshow pictures.
Jigsaws and pairs activities :
- To identify shapes of objects in the jigsaw activities
- To match the correct pictures of shapes and objects in the pairs activities.
Use photographs of objects which the children have found showing shapes or activities which the children have completed. Use the images to make a slideshow which the children can look at and identify shapes in the pictures.
